FROM HIGHLANDS TO HANDCRAFTS

Ethiopia, with over 3000 years of civilization, stands as a remarkable nation blessed with an abundance of natural resources and a rich tapestry of traditions that have woven its unique and diverse identity. From the awe-inspiring landscapes of the Ethiopian Highlands to the historical treasures of its ancient cities, the country's cultural heritage and natural wealth have solidified its place of great significance. Moreover, Ethiopia boasts a long tradition of craftsmanship, with leathercraft being one of its smallest yet cherished artisanal pursuits, adding yet another layer to its cultural tapestry.

CRAFTSMANSHIP TO INDUSTRY

Despite its rich history of civilization and craftsmanship that spans millennia, Ethiopia continues to grapple with poverty. To address this pressing issue, the nation urgently requires the development of robust manufacturing industries. While Ethiopia's heritage and artisanal traditions are sources of pride and cultural significance, they alone cannot fully uplift the country from its economic challenges. The establishment of strong manufacturing sectors represents a crucial step towards tackling poverty and fostering sustainable economic growth in Ethiopia.

Our belief is rooted in the idea that wages that support a decent life, safe work environments, and educational access offer greater benefits

Ethiopian Women's Struggles
Facing the Facts

In Ethiopia, it is estimated that 28 % of all street women are engaged in the sex trade. Some girls as young as 11 years of age are engaged in sex workers (SW). Studies also indicate that an increasing number of teenage girls come to Addis Ababa to involve in SW because of poverty.

Let's transform the condition by addressing the primary cause

Over the course of five transformative years I spent in Europe, I was exposed to the exorbitant prices of premium leather goods in foreign markets. The idea that these very products could potentially be crafted in Ethiopia, offered at affordable prices, and simultaneously uplift local communities filled me with excitement. Through the inception of Credence Leather Crafts, a new narrative was born, aimed at reshaping Ethiopia's footprint in the world of leather craftsmanship.

Our Impact

At Credence Leather Crafts, we believe in the power of women. We understand that women are not just equal but exceptional contributors to society, and our commitment to women's empowerment is deeply woven into the fabric of our company. Our dedication to this cause is reflected in every exquisite piece of leather craftsmanship we create.

Behind every product that bears our name, there is a story of determination, resilience, and artistry. We are immensely proud to say that each artisan in our atelier is a woman. These remarkable women are not just skilled craftswomen; they are the backbone of our operation. What sets us apart is our dedication to their empowerment. In addition to their fair wage, we employ a compensation system known as "Piece Rate Pay." This means that for every meticulously crafted item, our artisans receive an extra incentive, directly tied to their productivity. By choosing our products, you are not only supporting their livelihoods through fair wages but also ensuring that their dedication and hard work are recognized and rewarded.

Our commitment to women goes beyond just offering jobs. We invest in the development of our artisans, providing them with training and resources to enhance their skills. We believe in the transformative power of education and training, and we are dedicated to helping these women reach their full potential.

Many of our artisans have not only mastered their craft but have also taken on leadership roles within our organization. We are proud to have women in supervisory and managerial positions, proving that women are not just artisans but leaders in their own right.

Together, we can make a difference. By choosing Habesha Leather Crafts, you join us in our mission to empower women, one artisan at a time. Your support helps women realize their potential, achieve their dreams, and craft a better future for themselves and their families, piece by piece, while ensuring they receive fair compensation for every piece they create.
